and Works in Progress

B elow is an experimental interface project I'm currently working on. I'm using it to explore affordance, playful discovery of non-standard UI elements, and methods for creating texturally rich environments with reusable components. It's also just a heck of a lot o' fun to make!

Experimental Interface

L ast Spring I wrapped a year-long User Experience gig with the great guys over at involver.com (formerly rapouts.com). Below are some highlights of the work I produced for them.

Experimental Interface At Involver, I developed the IA and core UI patterns for their end-to-end video campaign platform (a web-based interactive streaming video application/marketing platform with reporting tools and an integrated social-networking component).

When we began the project there existed no precedent to look at for UI patterns for the video player/widget and a whole new paradigm needed to be created from scratch. Since we were using an agile development process, we chose to use Facebook as a platform to develop and test user workflows. Using Facebook's existing UI made it really quick and easy to build wireframes that could also be used as final production art.

These early Facebook (and eventually OpenSocial) trials gave us enough information to streamline the interface to the point where the social-networking aspects could be integrated into the widget itself. Thus freeing it up from being tied to any specific social-networking platform and allowing for it's use as a generic (and brandable) viral delivery mechanism.

To date Involver's pilot programs have won several awards, and the widget has far outshone any competing product in both conversions and user transaction completions.
